    Hi all,

I have been offered a day rate contract with a financial services company and i would love to hear your thoughts on what its like, the good, the bad and the ugly to give me a idea on what to expect and what affects it can have on career prospects and any other feedback or opinions.

    Thanks,
    LuckyCharms

it's just a short term contract with no other benefits (job security, holiday or sick pay) than decent pay. May need to sort out your own taxes and worry about not being eligible for certain social welfare payments if you're considered self employed.

Money's money and a job's a job. If you're happy with the rate that's all that matters.

Are you going to be working set hours in set locations with little freedom to dictate changes?

Sorry to hijack your thread. But I'm interested in this as well.

I'm currently unemployed. Signing on for credits.
I have been a approved for JobPlus.
I have an interview with a recruiter. That mentioned daily pay rate contract work.

How would it effect my unemployed status? I'd jump at a fixed 6 month or a year contract. But one with days here an there. I would not be interested if I lost my JobPlus? (I see this as a good selling point as I'm 38 and changing career) I would rather not become self employed either.

To qualify as an eligible employee for the €7,500 Incentive a jobseeker must be at least 12 months (312 days) on the Live Register in the previous 18 months. To qualify as an eligible employee for the higher Incentive of €10,000 a jobseeker must be at least 24 months (624 days) on the Live Register in the previous 30 months.

It looks like you could still be eligible if it was only six months depending on how log you have been unemployed already. You might have to reapply after the contract though. Probably best to check with social welfare first though.
