    Hi all,
    just wondering what is the story about a car left parked up on the path in an estate? I can't get a buggy past without going out on the road, which I don't want to do. The car has at least one flat tyre, but I haven't checked if its actually taxed or not. Who could get it moved - I don't know who owns it? Its parked on a section of the estate where there aren't any houses, just a big wall. Thanks,
    jacool.

    If it's a private estate, you have a management company, you need to contact the management agent to get it removed.

    If the council look after the estate you report it to them, or the Gardai. If the number plate happens to be missing the vehicle is picked up quicker.

    As far as I know if its parked on the footpath then its parked illegally. Its normally the local council that enforce parking and would be responsible for towing/impounding it. What area are you in?

    Call the Gardaí. Parking on a footpath is an offence and a car also needs to have tax and insurance to be parked in a public place

    Thanks all (must see who cycledub is though!)
    Its a new estate in Carrigaline, still building going on here.
    Will check the tax later when it stops raining!

    I live on a city council estate and we had a car left here and despite numerous calls to the guards/council it took over 3 months to get it moved and that was only after a brick was put through the back window.

    A housing estate whether privately owned or not is still deemed a public place and not private property. If a vehicle is parked illegally on the footpath causing an obstruction to pedestrians then it can be removed by the Gardai.

    No that is incorrect, yes a "public place" includes private areas which are accessible to the public, and a lot of the RTA applies to public places, however restrictions on parking specifically apply to "public roads" only as opposed to public places and is specifically defined in the RTAs as roads maintained by a local authority only.
    (1) Save as otherwise provided for in these Regulations and subject to article 5, a vehicle shall not be parked on a public road at a location, in a manner or for a purpose referred to in this article.
    “public road” means a road over which a public right of way exists and the responsibility for the maintenance of which lies on a road authority;

    Really, I wasn't aware of that restriction.

    If the license plate was to be blown off in the wind the car would be lifted soon enough! ;)

    Only on a public road and since the OP mentioned builders on site I doubt it's been transferred.

    No unlike parking restrictions a licence plate must be exhibited in a "public place"!
