I've been working on a piece of work for a while now and am so sick of it that I've started to avoid it in work. I really need to refresh myself so I can feel motivated to get going on it.

    Any tips?

Make a game of it. See how many pieces of work you can get done in an hour and then try to beat that record.

See, I had a clever one liner all worked out in my head....and you come up with an actual good idea.

That's terrible advice, pal. Far better to continue to avoid it, try and get someone else to do it, use alcohol after work to forget about it.

Next you'll be telling us to never take a 15 minute toilet break when on the clock.

Take a break. Do something else for a while. You won't waste your time. You'll find that when you are ready to go back to your task, you will work faster and better.

Blow up a balloon, then pop it.

Cocaine. Lots of it. You'll get that bit of work done in 4 minutes.

If possible just say to your self 'I'll do it for 10mins'. If you want to give up after 10mins give up and try again tomorrow.

But you might find that after 10mins you might be able for 10mins more and bit by bit, you'll get it finished.

I literally did this when writing my dissertation. See how many words I could write in an hour and try to beat that record. Never again. I hated that year so much.
