Renault Megane 02 Shuddering

    Hi all.

Renault Megane 02 Shuddering. Just started. Shudders when both idle and driving. Gear stick also shaking.

Also no real power, or rather slow to pick up speed/accelerate.

Slow to pick up speed going through gears. I only drove it a few miles after I noticed the problem, and possibly, the problem seems to be getting worse, possibly?

Taking to garage tomorrow, but just seeing if there might be a quick simple explanation that I might be able to fix myself (ever the optomist).

    Thanks folks.

Petrol? If so then its very likely that a plug coil is gone.

Thanks Brian. As little as I know about engines, I was thinking it might be a fuel thing. When I get it sorted I'll let you know. Many thanks in the meantime.

    Hi folks;

I meant to reply but forgot to. Yes it was the plug coil.

I got it fixed BUT i think another just went today.

I have the NCT on Tuesday. Will it fail it automatically on that, or would I be best to either try to get in fixed on Monday or re-schedule test?

    Thanks again.

If its another coil get it replaced - easy to change .
If you reschedule now they will still charge you the €22 cancellation fee as far as I know .

Thanks Dooroy, yes you are correct. I'll see if I can get it sorted first thing tomorrow.

    From NCT Website:

    "Remember

If you cancel your confirmed appointment with less than five working days notice (Mon. - Fri., not including the day you contact NCTS) or fail to show up for the test, a €22.00 surcharge will be applied when you next bring your car for testing. A similar surcharge of €11.50 will apply in the case of a re-test."

Might be as well to replace the other 2 while your at it, they are likely to go near enough too.

Not necessarily, I replaced two coils in Feb 2015 (they do go in pairs), the remaining two are still going. I carry a new pair in the vehicle just in case the others go.

But what's the point of saving them, they are likely unique to that car?

I have replaced quite a few over the years in Scenics , Lagunas etc but I always just replaced the one that had failed - and for some of the cars there was never another failure.
"They do go in pairs" - do you mean 2 will fail together ? if that happened I don't think the car would drive at all. Are you referring to the older Scenics which had 2 coils bolted on top of the engine and supplying 2 plugs each ?

    Thanks for comments folks.

Got 2 replaced today, other 2 replaced previously.

NCT different story all together :D Safety the most important thing so not a bother with a fail. Cheers.
