Disability Allowance & Carer's Benefit

I know that a person getting Disability Allowance can claim an IQA, and the Carer can claim half rate carers allowance to top up the household income.

But how does it work when a single woman on Disability meets a man who leaves work to care for her (and claims carers benefit)? Can that woman claim an IQA? That is the first question.

Second question is if yes, is that IQA reduced if the man earns €150.00 for 15 hours work?

No is the answer to your first question
The woman cannot claim QA for the man on CB
If a man is coming to live with you then you need to tell SW and send them his most recent payslip.

It is not me, it is a friend.

He is going to leave work, claim Carer's Benefit, and move to the county where she lives to take care of her. Bit of an online thing that developed. No financial interdependency to date. All very quick if you ask me, but anyway, moving on...

She is currently on Disability Allowance at the full rate.

This man hasn't a washer in his pocket, so he would qualify for the Carer's Allowance, so he is probably better to go that route so from what you are saying and:

    1. Have her claim disability as she currently does
    2. Add him as a IQA
    3. He then to claim half rate carers
    4. He then to get 15 hours work if he can

Does that make sense? Is that something that is doable?

You see the concern was this:

    1. He is currently on something like 30k I believe and has the PRSI contributions requirement
    2. Continuity of income flow is important; it can take months for Carer's Allowance; it can take much less for Carer's benefit. As he has nil to sweet fa assets, he couldn't cope with the cashflow disadvantage week on week of a Carers Allowance application waiting until a lump sum comes through. He needs the money weekly, not in a lump sum. Carer's Benefit would give that.
    3. He wants to retain the option of going back to work (he can still do this whether on allowance or benefit anyway so I believe)

So what do you think? Is he better to go on Allowance or Benefit?

As I see it, before securing any 15 hours of work:
    1. Allowance gives them c. €415.00 (188 + 124 + 105)
    2. Benefit gives them c. €393.00 (188 + 205) (is this right?)

Could he even go on Benefit and then stick in the application for a transfer to Allowance?
