IT Project Management Advice

I have 4 years experience as a systems analyst, and I'm looking for a path to becoming a IT Project Manager. Systems Analyst is my title but it is a hybrid role including incident resolution, development, project support, vendor/client management, process improvement. I have a BA (Hons) in Computing and do development as a hobby.

I'm a little confused about how to move out of such a role and progress my career to project management. I was thinking of the following:

    - Diploma in Project Management (Griffith College, accredited by ICM)
    - After that, Prince2

I'd also be interested in upskilling in Agile/Scrum as some point after that. PMP doesn't seem like an option for me right now because they require people already working as PMs (4500 hours experience).

Another area of concern is actually getting a PM job. Assuming I do the above courses, considering my current role, and the possibility of getting more PM exposure in my current role, would that be enough to get a PM job?

Am I approaching this correctly? Any advice from people in this area would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks :)

FIrstly I'd do the PRINCE2 course before the diploma.

What methodology/approach do your current company use? Waterfall or Agile?
There's a fair bit of material out there to study e.g. SCRUM and you don't have to do a course to sit the Scrum Master exam.

The qualifications along won't get you a pm job, tbh, you'd need to get experience of managing projects along with the qualification in my opinion.

I know that there are multiple different project management qualifications that can be got.

I would say it might be a good idea to:
    - which companies you would like to be PM in
    - what types of PM they use
    - what qualifications are needed for them
    - if there are different levels of PM you can get for them

then see if you can find out online or maybe ring them up or talk to someone you know in one or more of the companies to find out how much experience or what level they tend to look for
