I'm just wondering how exactly subjects and points are calculated in the leaving cert.

I am interested in studying medicine in NUIG so I need Irish,English,Maths, a third language, lab science and Chemistry.

I am studying all these subjects for the leaving cert. Does this mean I must use the points from the above subjects to calculate points or can I just study them for the leaving cert and count my highest points from a subject not listed e.g. Business?

I am sorry if this sounds confusing. I am basically asking can I count points from any subject as long as I have the minimum entry requirements studied for the leaving cert?

Yep exactly. Your six best subjects will count even if these don't include subjects that you are taking to meet the course requirements.
