Is there a way to find out how much annual tax there may be on a car for sale in the UK. Auris, 1.4 diesel, 2010, I'm hoping it is low, of course.

If you google "VRT Calculator, you'll find the Revenue site, which does what it says on the tin. Pop in the details of the car and it will show you the amount payable.

It is the road tax, not vrt. Thanks both of you.

The car is listed as 125 so gives me a tax bill of 270. Having read the informative thread on buying in the UK I will try to ensure the dealer is legitimate, as the poster said anybody can pose as a dealer.

In the description of another car I'm looking at the autotrader emissions figure says it is 128 but decreases to 125 when I click on the link for the dealer's site (Arnold Clark), but the vrt calculated this car as 117 - how strict are they on this? It is only around 100 euros in the difference when i change the amount manually, mind.

The VRT and motor tax are worked out on the official figures. They will take it from the V5 cert afaik. Whats on a dealers site or what he says is irrelevant if its different to the V5 or the manufacturer supplied figures.
