Hi all. Apologies if this has been covered already. I have't claimed in about 2 years, but the last time I did, Health Expense, Refuse Fees, Union fees etc. it was so easy (probably why they stopped it!!)to claim. Now I need my P60. I don't plan to take the pi$$ or anything, just the usual 300ish euro medical expense that will prob net me 40 euro.

Anyone ever have to provide their medical receipts?

Im having dental wok done, and was advised to keep receipts.
Mostly I dont bother to claim tbh, unless it for a big amount.

Are you talking about the online service or a manual paper claim. You always needed any receipts to back up any claim you made. You must retain receipts for 6 years.
Depending on how early you make a claim for anything in the year, you might need to provide your P60 as Revenue might not have your pay and tax on file.

Why wouldn't you take 3 minutes and make a claim online? A €50 doctors visit could return €10 to you.

I claimed tax back for last year. Didnt have the P60, just estimated the earnings as you can put them in yourself on the anytime site.

Jus a word of caution with that. Inputting your own details can go wrong for quite a few people in January and February each year. Users have input the wrong figures either by reading payslips incorrectly or estimating. This can result in false overpayments and underpayments which end up getting corrected when your employer files your pay and tax details with Revenue or the mistake is so odd it's picked up for manual verification.

It was for a period of time off, so the return would be fixed, (tax credits and tax bands unused), so estimating high or low by a few k would make no difference there.

Can only reiterate its important to keep med receipts. I was checked up on about 7 years ago and had all receipts. My brother never kept his, but he had to go to his GP to get copies and a report.

Its just a paper exercise and we have a shoe box only for medical and dental. Its a good habit to get into,
