Composite Door

Hi, I'm replacing my hall door and was going to get a composite one - probably a Palladio. ive had a number of quotes for supply and fit (2 side glass side panels and top glass panel). I'm in Kildare. They range from 2800 - 3600. Most quotes on the higher end incidentally.

One of the companies I had in told me there are problems with composite doors in that they have been known to warp (bubble out). He said theyve repaired other doors like this and that they are a bit nervous of them in general (although happy to fit it). He said to investigate it myself but just wanted to be upfront so I knew there was a possibility etc. I havent found much evidence of this online from a search but wanted to know if any of ye had any experience or heard of any issues?

My door will be in direct sunlight a lot of the day - east facing.

Also, re price: Is it a case of thats the cost of them and the cheaper end is going to do a poor quality job do ye think? All quoting me Palladio door.

    Cheers,

    All doors give trouble.
    Timber swells and contracts.
Aluminium is cold and is prone to condensation / mold
uPVC is heavy and expands and contracts at different rates.
Brown uPVC is particularly bad for warping in the middle.
Composite doors are very heavy and will pull on the top hinge which will need constant adjusting.

The more you pay the better the door. Look out for the type of hardware on the door, you want quality.
Check out prices in Northern Ireland as sterling is now 79p.

Anyone out there have a composite door which shakes like jelly when you close it? Door and frame both wobble and I can't believe that this is normal.

    Anyone else have this problem?

Installer says it's normal but surely door and frame should not shake when you close them?

in actual fact the door, frame and the piece above the door shakes like bejaysus when its shut, and it nees a good shove to get it to shut too

We are in the market for a composite door at the moment and the information regarding the doors and the frames is that the composite doors are too heavy for standard pvc frames. The frames need to have metal reinforcing in the frames otherwise the frames shakes when the door closes and the hinges tend to sag with the weight. Seemingly many suppliers used to buy the door and make up their own frame and hence they can price it cheaper.
We were advised if choosing ensure the frame supplied comes from the door manufacturer with the metal reinforcing.
We are looking at an Apeer 70 door as the Palladio is 40mm wider than our current wooden one.

I'm thinking about a new front door, could you pm me the place your bought from and if its decent quality.
So many different options and suppliers hard to know who to go with.

We got one last year when getting windows done. Theyre not cheap, but far from the dearest. Your talking 2-3k for a decent composite door.

That seems an awful lot for a door but I suppose there are lots of different sizes, types and styles.

Well we had side panels and panels above the door too all triple glazed. Think the palladios start at about 1.5k. Again, this is all from memory.

Please PM me if that's more appropriate?
