Hi all - I looked at a 2012 Zafira today w 103,000km on the clock. Seemed high to me but salesman (of course) rationalised it as quite normal.

The car itself drove fine, I'm used to Zafiras and I like them, Clutch, brake, accelerator all responsive, few tiny parking dents but nothing major. I'm not a car expert by any stretch but it seemed fine

the inside hadn't been cleaned yet and there was a fair bit of mould on the seatbelts etc in back and boot - is that something to worry about? (I know we got some on our old zafira this winter too which came off with a good clean and some mould spray)

It doesn't seem to have a USB connector which I would find handy for charging the phone on the road and the cig lighters didn't look like they'd have any connectors inside - sales man said they'd get those working so we could plug charger in there - is that something they can do easily or a false promise?

one of teh air vents was broken but again he said they'd fix that

he said we could have for 14,500 along with trading in our knackered old 2002 petrol zafira

seems like an ok price to me

any thoughts? anything particular I should be on the lookout for? I might get my brother to come look at it with me tomorrow

Why do you think 103,000 km is high? That's about 63,000 miles which is not high for a 4 year old car. I think people automatically get a high mileage mental block when they see 6 digits on the odometer even when it's in km.

Sounds like 14500 is a bit expensive, your probably getting nothing for the 2002 Zafira either.

If this one is genuine then it's a bit cheaper:

thanks Bazz - I think you are probably right about the mental block. I looked at a renault scenic 4 years old that had only 48,000k on the clock so obviously got it stuck in my mind that that was what I should be expecting, but of course that's very low. the scenic had very soft brake and other faults though which this one doesn't have.

that one you linked to is a better price, however I'm based in cork and the one I am looking at is with my local dealer, they've been servicing my other car for years and I do trust them, the salesman lives very local to me too so I am hoping won't risk his good reputation on selling me a dud

this one was on at 16,500 so he immediately gave me 2000 "off" for the old car, which is worth about 20quid the state it is in!

While there is good value to be put on buying from a trusted seller and it's impractical to buy half ways up the country. Have a look on carzone.ie for 2012 Zafiras and there are a few asking less than 14500. However very few are local to you so probably a mute point.

Price wise what has happened there and what happens with most dealers is that they massage the figures so that the deal looks very attractive. Your old Zafira is not worth 2k, what they have probably done is priced the newer car at the high end of the price scale in order to give a larger trade-in value for your old car which looks very appealing. Realistically your old car is probably valued at €500 and the newer one at €15000.

Good luck with the new car.
