Digiweb contract

I signed up for what I was told was a 12 month contract last May as I knew I would only be living in the house I was moving in to for a year.

I contacted digiweb to give notice on my account and they're now saying that I have to pay €40 for six more months as it was an 18 month contract.. that they only do fibre broadband for 18 months. So that will be €240 for six months unused!

I signed up over the phone and most certainly did not agree to an 18 month contract as I knew I would be leaving the house in 12 months..

I'm getting nowhere with customer support.
Has anyone been in this position before?

Your contract is a verbal one. Insist they produce a recording, if they can't then they can huff it. If they disagree your bank can be told reject their charges.

Good idea.. thanks! I never thought of that!
I have a standing order with them, so will stop that if they don't agree.
My only problem would be if they created a 'bad debt' for me and this would affect my credit rating!

I'm not a financial adviser, seek professional advice, but others have posted that the ISPs don't have the ability to effect your credit rating.

ED_E is right - get professional financial advise.

Having said that I religiously listen to the consumer guy on the Anton Savage Show and he has stated the only debts that go on your credit record are those that are with banks/credit institutions or court judgements.

If you owe a debt to Digiweb, they can huff and puff all they want and sell the debt to debt collectors and all that good stuff, but it would be unlikely that anybody is going to take you to court for €240. So your Irish Credit Bureau (ICB) record should be untarnished.

Now what can happen is that in say 5 years time, you find yourself needing to take up a service with Digiweb. If they realise that you are the same person who still owes them €240, they can (and would) refuse service until the debt is cleared.

Hi raemie10 if you would be so kind and email sales@digiweb.ie and input your Digiweb account number in the email subject along with ''Boards.ie'' I will be more than happy to look into that for you, Regards - Art

Hi Digiweb. The rules for business accounts posting have changed since this account was last used. Could you please contact the guys in the office (reps@boards.ie) so that they can sort you out with a verified rep account. In the meantime we would ask that you don't post any further until the rep account has been sorted.
