Ford Focus 1.6 Engine Malfunction (with code results)

    Hi all, I have a 2010 1.6TDCI diesel.
In the past year, I've experienced the 'Engine Malfunction'. It's usually the same thing: I'm driving along the motorway (always happens when on the motorway and the car is war) and the Engine Malfunction alarm goes off.
I usually get the car to a safe place and the car eventually gives out (I usually get around 30-40 seconds). Then, I wait for around 20 seconds and attempt to start the car again. I continue to turn the ignition (with the foot on the throttle) until the car (hesitantly) starts again. When it does, I give the car a good throttle and, usually, I'm good to go again! :)
Thing is, if I only ever get one crack at starting the car after it gives out. If I don't manage to start it after it attempts to fire, I've to call the garage :(

The last time this happened, I took it to the garage, had the fuel filters changed and had the codes read. The results were:
      * P0087 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure too low - Above Maximum Threshold * P1180 - Fuel Delievery System Malfunction - Above Maximum Threshold

Could it be the fuel filter again? The mechanic cut open the last filter and it was very clean. At this rate, I would be changing fuel filters every 5000km.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated.

Ive seen a few fuel rails replaced on those focus for symilar symptoms i also seen one replaced for a bad connection in the plug going onto the rail.
In saying all that its only really guess work without seeing the car.

Is a fuel rail expensive to get fitted (if it's the problem)?

You would be better off getting a proper diagnosis instead of just fitting parts and hoping for the best.
A fuel rail could be between 200 to 300 euro fitted

I've changed a few fuel pressure sensors on these engines, I'd advise having a diesel specialist look at it. Fuel Injection Services in Fairview are very good.
