Insurance

I'm 17, going on 18, with full licence.

I'm still undecided on my first car.
A diesel Golf or Bora can be bought cheaper for the price of a petrol one, while the petrol one is cheaper to insure.

Should I go for a diesel and pay more for insurance, will I save more money in fuel on a diesel?

Also anyone know companies that will definitely insure me as a named driver?

    Cheers!

What mileage will you be doing? Diesel cars typically cost more to maintain than petrol cars.

Diesel Golf/Bora will be a 1.6 or 1.9tdi most likely.

Insurers will charge plenty to cover you in one of those.

Best advice is probably to go for a smaller engine to begin with, and build experience and your NCB.

Fairly low maybe up to 8000miles? Only using it for school and going to work.

Boxymo quoted me €1900 on a 1.4 Bora in my own name, but I'm unsure whether to trust them.

Got the same on a 2 liter merc but that can increase depending on your driving habits apparently
