Charity committee problems

    Hi guys

I have recently been appointed chair of a local mental health advocacy and action group. I have been an ordinary member since it was set up in 2010.

Before I ask the questions, some context.

We have had a few new members join and one has started being particularly difficult. We have a website which has been static for many years and this person had an idea of a "meet the team" section. The minutes of the meeting did not state a deadline. The minutes did state we would upload 2 profiles a week and I would be away for around 6 days.

The member and myself had been exchanging emails about the site which I felt that as a long term project is viable, but as it is a basic Weebly based site, with no google ranking on pertinent search terms. In those emails he brought personel grievances that are out side the group and became abusive and insulting. I was no angel and regret some of the responses I gave Im not happy with.

In a nutshell, he ended up resigning. which lead to another member resigning. (all through email) I have recently set up a new google account and have been asking memeber to cc all emails, both within the group and outgoing, and to make all official out going mail through the account. i felt in the interest of transparancy and accountability I forwarded our email discussion so the full board could see how and why he resigned.

I awoke this morning to a message that one of them had accessed the committee email.

Question 1. Should they have asked permission to see our email account as they had resigned

This was followed up by an extremely abusive and hostile email threatening legal action because I had shared our email discussion to an email.

Question 2. As I was sharing this too our committee so they could see the nature of our discussion, which was supposed to be on committee business. Did I break the law?

Hope you can provide some good advice on this
