Verso brake disc wear

    Hi,
I got this Toyota Corolla Verso a few months ago, and I've noticed a rough grinding noise when starting out in the morning off the fron left break disc.

I took the wheel off, and the disc are in bad enough condition, I grinded down a ridge, to take a measurement of the disc, see right side of photo (23mm .. minimum thickness for spec)

The disc itself has some lines ground into it, but the pads have plenty left on them!! so I'm thinking this damage is from the previous pads not been changed fast enough....
THe car only has 100k on it so I'm thinking these are the original discs

My question is, can anything cause damage to the disc if the break pads look to have plenty of meat on them?

    Thanks

Time for new discs,by the time the pads wear out the discs could be worn through,
They look fairly shot anyway so no harm to get them renewed and new pads at the same time.
