Hi, I just wondered do I need a passive or active DI box when playing a semi acoustic through it? The acoustic has a battery , so I am guessing active, but not too sure.

    Thanks

By rule of thumb it should be an active as far as I remember. Having said that there's also specific acoustic DIs available.

When an instrument has a pre-amp, such as yours (you can tell because that's what the battery powers), it makes no difference being active or passive per se, but for example, any cheap passive DI will be 100 times better than a cheap active one, especially those awful Behringer things. They are noisy, introduce phase anomalies and distortion.

    Hope this helps ~
