    Hey,
I've recently been driving my brothers car a 07/08 vw polo 1.2, and since I've had it ( and i'd imagine before i got it ) the gear selection in it is non existent. It's completely sloppy and vague, just floats around.
I'm just wondering does anyone know a solution to this, because after some research online i cant find any solution but i see the unit seems like a concealed unit so would i have to change the complete unit or i wonder could it a changeable component , just said i would ask before i tear it apart.
    Thanks

You mean it goes into gears but stays very loose/wobbly? Check the selector tower, I haven`t done polos but on a couple of golfs I did ,the selector tower was adjustable on the top of the gearbox. I remember one of them had a loose bolt as well on the tower and was very sloppy alright.(Or was it a transit? :o)

Actually I phrased that terribly.. After further investigation it's like the ball and socket of the bottom of the gear stick.. It feels like it's bone dry.. I don't know if its that is the problem or it is the linkages that have dried out.. But it feels like it's the ball and socket joint.. Would copper grease be the best bet to spray on it??

And it's the fact that it's so solid that makes it so hard to find gear... The complete opposite of loose as I said earlier haha 😂.. It means there is no like return to centre of a normal gear selector
