Golf, Leon or Octavia 2.0TDi. All come with 6-Speed DSG - which are much better than the 7-speeds version.

But I don't know if Leon or Octavia are German enough... ;)

I've just sold a Leon FR TDI170 manual, but want an auto, yes i include Seat and Skoda as German!

Id consider Octavia, Superb etc, just seems what im after isnt there!

Looking like irish people are completely allergic to Auotomatics!

I think Seats are your best bet...

Since Clarkson's affection/commercial of Yeti and great hype towards Octavia, all Skodas started to keep their value very well.

It is not allergy, it is the Government and the fixation on CO2 emissions. Consumptions of an auto car look much worse in the brochure, hence bigger CO2 => higher VRT and yearly tax. But in real life they are on par with a manual.

I looked for more-less a year for something to replace the Prius (had some particular requirements) and ended up buying new.

BTW. Ford have 8 factories in Germany ;)

Don't know if it ticks the desirability box though. I love it on paper but it's a little dull if I'm honest.

Dealer near me has an 11 seat exeo estate (basically the old model a4 with the new CR TDI engine) with 7 speed DSG and is one of the higher spec ones with leather and touchscreen etc, has the newer 7 speed DSG with paddle shifters.
It's a uk import, still on uk plates, I checked the mileage on the uk mot site and it checks out. I think there's 64k on it. There's new good tyres on it and he's just done the timing belt, he's a VW/seat/Skoda authoritised repairer and used to be a seat main dealer. He's looking for 13000.

    Is it 1.6 or 2.0?

2.0 would not come with DQ200, but rather DQ250 (6 speed, which is much better), while I would be surprised to see an Exeo with 1.6TDI. ;)

If it was 2.0, I would be driving there right now ;)

It's a 2.0 TDI 140 and it's definitely 7 speed. Yer man said it was DSG but do you know I'm thinking it's probably multitronic now.

It's not a DSG, but probably a Multitronic with virtual gears then. Like this one: http://paultan.org/2006/08/27/audi-a4-20t-fsi-multitronic-test-drive/

With the advertised mileage I would not be afraid of it though.

True, but the CVT feels so dopey and lazy compared to DSG, my wife has a Leon st DSG and the gearbox is just fantastic!

This is swaying me towards a dsg car tbh

You may have to revise 1 or more of your criteria. Personally the one I would relax is the minimum year, if you are close but not finding anything dropping back 1 year should do it. I think it's actually the least important constraint in comparison to mileage and condition. Condition is the most important. Auto would be more common in Mercedes/Audi/BMW than volkswagen/seat/skoda but as we all know are a little more expensive. Keeping below 80k miles should be ok as low to medium mileage drivers bought diesel since 08. I understand you wanting to stay German, that's ok. Have you looked at 08? Or is there a particular reason you want 09 on?

Edit: I just had a look applying those filters it looks like you are out of luck even on 08 cars if you won't relax the rules. Might be an impossible ask at this particular time.

are you having it checked by AA or RAC etc before travelling over?

at least the euro is going the right way v sterling for you! Hopefully it gains more for you by the weekend and for me, as London aint cheap :D

was just checking op, it seems from 2010 on the emissions dropped a bit, which would save E110 a year in motor tax, not too much, but it would also save on vrt, 4% according to my calculations.

Not German but i'd recommend the Volvo S60. Autobox is very smooth and you won't get a more comfortable car with the exception of Jags, S classes etc.

Yes to the first 2, have done full background checks also, yes a 2010 will be cheaper vrt and tax, but 2010 models are £1000 more to buy so it much of a muchness, the fact this has 37000 warranted miles is a big plus.

    Slightly above your price & milage allowance, but what about;

    2010 320d Auto

I bought an E90 (2006 M-Sport Auto) with 92,000 miles on it, and it still drives like new with 141,000 on it. fantastic auto box on it too

There is slight difference between 2006 and 2010 320d... N47 vs M47, to be precise...

M47 is not without its faults, but it is not designed to fail.

Ive read about that issue, luckily for me I got the N47 engine (as I didn't know about it when I bought).

    Nope you'd have the M47

With the sterling rate at the minute, it is once again viable to go to the UK for cars. In fact, theres actually savings to be made aswell as a better selection!

Yes there is, the selection of huge spec cars with lower mileage is really good, im not really getting the gold very cheap, but id pay the same here for a lower spec with 3x the mileage!
