Ring Of Kerry - Lottery Suspicions

    Hi there,

Congrats to all the successful applications to this years ROK. My father and I also were successful and this will be our 3rd year.

I'm Irish and live in Norway. I suggested this cycle to a number of friends of mine from the cycling club and all they really looking forward to doing it. None were successful, some didn't even get an email to tell them they didn't get in. It seems a bit dodgy that the 2 Irish that applied got in and not a single one from Norway were accepted.

Anyone got a similar experience to share?

    I'm Irish.
    I was unsuccessful.
I wonder did the organisers think my name sounded Norwegian?
    Cheers,

You have to enter a lottery to cycle the ring of Kerry????????

You would have thought that Kerry tourism and the organisers of the ROK would be bending over backwards and actively encouraging overseas cyclists to do the event.

On some lottery based events in the UK (most notably the FW in Cumbria), overseas applicants get an automatic 'shoe-in'.

OP, I don't know if they went into any detail as to how the lottery would be run (for some reason I cannot access the website at present) - have you asked them about the process and if there was anything that would give preference (or otherwise) to anyone? I do know for example that with many things like this if you apply as a group you may find that either everyone or no-one is successful. Maybe they had a set number allocated to overseas participants?

Just to add - I'm not Irish and do not have an Irish sounding name. I was not successful - that's probably as much down to the fact I did not enter this particular lottery mind:)

Just reapply with the appropriate suffix after your Norwegian name as follows:

    Gunnar Thorstyen Healy-Rae.

    Job done. :)

And there was me, thinking that nobody could possibly take my post or the original post seriously.
