Paid For Time Receiving Training?

Hi all, I did some digging on the interweb but unable to find any answers.

A friend who work's in a community creche recently did her required Paediatric First Course on a Saturday. She wasn't paid for her time doing this course and tells me she's never been paid for her time doing any training courses there.

My understanding was that training courses required for your job where same as working time and she should be paid. But, I'm unable to find anything to say this is correct and legally required.

Does anyone know the law around this? Not interested in anyone's opinions please, on whether it's right or wrong to expect payment etc etc etc.

    Thanks!

There is nothing in the law that I can recall from the ORGANISATION OF WORKING TIME ACT, 1997 that would mandate payment for training or any other law. At best you could approach it on a contract basis assuming it had stated working days listed in the contract as Monday to Friday and no provision for any OT or "other work as required" or similar (which are pretty much a default clause these days) or the weekly rest period not being fulfilled (i.e. the 24h weekly rest period should be after a daily rest period of at least 11h).

If she is getting the course fee covered by her employer they may consider that "payment" enough. Those first aid courses are fairly expensive. If she was paid a salary for that day but then paid her own course fee she could be worse off. I wouldn't rock the boat tbh
