macbook pro constantly droping wifi.. ANY HELP???

    Hi all,
apologies about the upper case emphasis in the title, but im at my nerves end with this.
My macbook pro, running El Capitain, has started to drop its wifi connectivity even though the system preferences says that im connected. The two iphones and ipad in the house are connecting without problem. This has happened to me previously but changing the Access Control settings to an allow list of MAC addresses cured the problem, but the problem is now back.
I have re-assigned the allow list as a means of trouble shooting but this doesnt work. And as the rest of the devices are fine im presuming that theres an issue with the macbook itself. What happens is that consistently, but not always the web pages will not load and will result in a 'problem loading page'. But if i turn the wifi off and then on again the page will load no problem for a few clicks and then the problem returns. I have scowered across the web for solutions to this and even tried removing the 'wifi prefs' and reloading, but to no avail.
Any help with this would be great as im at the end of my tether with it.

Im using Horizon set top modem form upc/Virgin
Connecting through 2.4ghz (tried the 5, to no avail)
    Macbook Pro (early 2011)

Again any help would be really welcomed as I havent been able to find similar problems resolved despite looking on multiple forums.

    Thanks in advance

Does it happen with all WiFi networks or just your home network ? Have you tried tethering it to your iPhone set as a hotspot ?

If you hold the alt key as you click the Airport icon on the top right of your screen you will see extra details about your connection. One is Internet: Reachable if you have an internet connection through the connected wireless network.

You probably already know that just because you are connected to the network it doesn't necessarily mean you are connected to the internet. Have you tried manually setting the TCP/IP settings rather than DHCP assigning them. Also try setting the DNS to 8.8.8.8 to see if that helps.

Also, try pinging an address when your browser appears to lose connectivity.

Weird suggestion - but something I and others have seen with Macs and our corporate network -
    • Open 'System Preferences'
    • Open 'Energy Saver'
    • Make sure 'Put hard disk to sleep when possible' is unchecked (for both Battery & Power Adapter)
    • Go back to 'System Preferences' and back to 'Energy Saver' and make sure its saved
    • Re-start

    Paddy

PS Multiple theories on why this works, I suspect it's connected with the drivers for the WiFi chips, and it doing some iffy disk access, so it errors without waking the hard disk if it's asleep.
