There is another collaboration between Radio Caroline North and Manx Radio starting Saturday 27th February at 8:30am until 9pm on Sunday 28th February.
The transmission is on 1368khz medium wave ,also online from Manx Radio and Radio Caroline web sites.
The presenters are on the radio ship Ross Revenge anchored on the river Blackwater in North Essex.

Another real treat coming up ---- spread the word !!

1368khz is a good signal here on the Pembrokeshire coast.

    Happy listening .
    Regards

Follow up ---- according to the Radio Caroline site the programmes start at 6:00am on Saturday .
Is there any interest in this in Eire --- has anyone listened to the last collaborations --- if not you've missed a treat ?
    Regards

Thank-you Manx Radio transmitting a great week end of well presented programmes from Radio Caroline North.
It's interesting that there weren't any comments here about it apart from 1 "thanks" and 1 private message to me.
I would have thought that Radio Caroline North in Ramsey Bay was a part of people's lives all those years ago
    maybe I'm wrong.

There is another collaboration between Manx Radio and Radio Caroline North over the Easter week end
for those who remember it was the end of the ship Mi Amigo when she sank on March 20th 1980 bringing to an end the Caroline era ---- for a while....
    Regards

It is interesting for radio anoraks to read about it. Some of us appreciate Caroline's significance in the history of radio (I hope!). The problem is that most of the regular Irish posters here never got a chance to hear Caroline when it was on air, as it could not be picked up in most of Ireland... plus many would have been too young! So, not really a part of people's lives around here!

I lived for a brief period in England in the '80s and, during my time there, I briefly heard Radio Caroline at a market! It is only with hindsight that I regret that I did not make more of an effort to seek it out. Worklife and related socialization and catching up on music got in the way although I did get to hear the local licensed music stations during my time there!

Incidentally, I used to be able to pick up Manx Radio at 999kh on Medium Wave around Dublin. I don't know if most of our FM anoraks would have known about it in Ireland!

Keep us informed. If there is any Irish interest, such as possible involvement by Steve Conway, that might get a bit more reaction!

    Declan A Walsh,
Thanks for taking the time to reply ---- as the crow flies I live much further south than Dublin and took my tranny to school every day on the bus to listen to Caroline North and the rest of the ships later in the evenings -- Radio Scotland being one of the strongest along with Caroline South.
Manx Radio on 1368khz is a big signal down here all day that's why I thought it would be the same further north and across the water
the announcers always say "on 1368khz medium wave .....and along the north Wales coast".
Times have changed, I know, and there are far more distractions now than listening to the radio.
Who knows what the future will bring ---- Radio Caroline are already on 3 DAB areas as experiments --- low power muxes -- one being DAB+
    Regards

When did I pick up Radio Manx on 999 on MW? It must be in or around ten years ago, My memory is hazy about the exact time.

Possibly someone relaying Manx Radio locally as they haven't used 999 khz.
Their original allocated frequency was 1594 khz with 50W but was rejected on technical grounds.
In 1965 they used 1295 khz (232 meters) during daylight hours and 1594 khz (188 meters) at night.

I suffer the hazy memory too. My memory was Southside Radio was on 999khz in the early 80's, 300 meters was given more prominence. smile.png

Back to Manx, it was the side bands that did it for me. Tuning from the dead audio on Radio Ulster to Manx a real big difference. I think they were running full peak audio. Maybe using an Orban 9100A or similar.

This may be a very uninformed question but can't they issue an internet stream of their broadcast? That would make it more accessible to all.

The Manx Radio site carries the stream from 8:30am on Saturday ---- look for the listen live then listen to AM button .
Radio Caroline site has the stream live from 6am on Saturday. The Caroline North banner will have a listen live button.
1368khz is more fun as it relives the MW AM days with all it's squeaks and whistles !!

Listening in on Manx Radio relay using a wide up radio as I do some gardening. Great selection of 80's music & some interesting memories from other listeners. 1960's & early 1970's were my Caroline era admittedly but still sounds great.

Doing the same over here in Pembrokeshire and getting the boat ready for the summer !!
The 1960s and 1970s were also my era but enjoying the mix of music.

I enjoy these end of month link ups with Manx Radio --- thanks guys.

Listening as well. Great stuff. I've actually started listening to the regular Manx Radio as well which I find to be a brilliant station.
    Cheers for the heads up.
