As the title suggests Virgin Media wifi is not great I got a pair on home plugs in Argos to connect up a couple of devices all seems good so far.

How do homeplugs compare to wifi for the more experienced users here?

    In brief summary:

    Ethernet:
    -Reliable
    -Labor intensive
    -Almost always fastest

    Homeplugs:
    -Somewhat variable
    -Limited work to install
-Max out around 300Mb on a good day
    -Sensitive to existing wiriging

    WLAN:
    -Wholly unreliable
    -No work to setup
    -1Mb to 800Mb real world

Wifi cannot cover greater range like homeplugs can, but for a small area a high end router will give you better raw performance with new devices when using 5Ghz.
