Hi total newbie here. We are looking to build a three bed bungalow and are meeting architect to discuss where on the site to position the house. Is there anything we should look out for or any advice on where would be best place to position entrance etc. I know its probably like asking how long is a piece of string. Rectangular site.

Kilkenny county council have made a brilliant rural design guide. Definitely worth reading. It tells you about access and line of sight, septic tank position, fitting the house to the site. A must read for anyone embarking on self build.

The house faces south or the rear garden faces south?

Not much use having the sun on your front door all day. :D

Exactly! Rear facing south means you can go mad with glazing without worrying about planning. It also means you can stay in the sun at the private side of your house (rear) rather than the front.
