Is anyone in Irish politics discussing any real issues?

I'm pretty out of touch with politics in ireland having been out of the county for quite a while now and thoroughly disillusioned in any case.

Recently my twitter feed has been full of output from the main parties and they are just slagging each other. There seems to be no content whatsoever. It looks like nothing rises above school yard name calling.

What the hell is going on?

If anyone can tell me that some intelligent politicians exist I might just go back and vote for them.

People's opinions of politics in Ireland can be usually distilled down to a view that "one crowd are only a shower of B****ds, I'll be voting for the other shower".

There's not much effort to tease out policies and their pros and cons.

Most people care little about the nuances of policies, all they care about is the money in their pockets. So if someone promises a reduction in one tax or utility charge, that's good enough for them. They don't think about the other side of the equation.
