Fix or replace (Seiko kinetic 5m63

    Hello,

I have a Seiko Kinetic 5m63 which has served me well for 13 years. Recently it is not holding it's charge. I didn't ever wear it at night so started doing so and it was fine in the morning for a while. But in the last few weeks, that's not working either and it will have either stopped completely or be a few hours slow by the time I get up.

So, although it's given me a great deal of pleasure for so long, I'm trying to decide if it's worth fixing (or even possible to fix easily) or I just just bite the bullet and get a new watch. The Seiko wasn't an expensive watch (about €250 at the time - similar in photo below) - I do like it's style but open to something different.

    Any recommendations on:
    1) can I get it repaired easily and where?
    2) if I replace what should I get? (I don't like big bulky Tag Heuer's or Omega's)

Budget between €1k and €2k - ideally something I can pass on to the next generation. Something classy, striking and suitable for everyday.

I might pop in to Weir's tomorrow.

AFAIK a capacitator / battery upgrade is a cheap enough fix, €20 approx. Will try find a link.

    What blue says.

I'd also suggest with that budget that you don't go to weirs - their seikos are savagely over-priced so good knows what the mark up is like on the good stuff.

Chrono24 is a great place with that budget.

Or Seiyajapan could get you a striking seiko:

It sounds to me like you need to do a quick fix on that and get a new watch. Seiko have a service centre in the UK which I have heard good things about. I also know of a hobbyist repairer of electrical watches on TZ-UK called Keith Tilley who might be able to help you with this (he's worked on several of my watches and also, ahem, at least one other member of this forum).

In terms of a new watch you'll have to give us a bit more info but then, Weirs have such a range, you might have a better idea once you've tried a few on.
