We are planning on renting out at least 25 acres of land to a solar energy company who would install solar panels . If we agree to this and sign forms (as of yet we have not signed any forms) would this affect our single farms payment ?

They have sent us a form which says that it would not tie us down to anything but would allow them to speak to the ESB on our behalf as they couldn't negotiate with them w/o the written permission of the landowner.

Sign nothing without consulting a solicitor. Seriously, you are asking for trouble if you sign a document someone else puts in front of you without legal advice which you won't get here.

First, get a solicitor. You can't get advice here, its against forum rules and even if you could, you would be mad to believe and bet the farm on the opinions of random people on the internet.

Second, and more interesting: Solar panels? in Ireland? Really? are you sure this is not a scam???

Two recent articles from the Irish Independent (Farming Section).

The first one addresses legal issues.

Get ready for the solar 'gold rush'

Farmers need to know their rights and obligations before entering into any discussions with solar energy companies

Cloud is no obstacle to solar energy production

Energy sector experts claim that Ireland's wet and cloudy climate is no obstacle to profitable opportunities for both land owners and developers.

The infrastructure investment must be high if the typical lease is for 25-30 years. Does anyone have a ballpark figure for kW per hectare or sq. m. on a good summer day?
