Scrappage? No NCT...

My car died, put up another thread here about looking at a 2nd hand Exeo for about 11k or 12k or so, or maybe a Passat or Superb - a nice saloon anyway. I would have that money to hand and was just planning on a straight up cash deal.

Someone mentioned to me about scrappage deals. My car has had no NCT for a long time now, I presume it's needed?

If not, what would you do? Think new and scrappage or stick with the old routine of paying what you can and sticking to that?

Terms and conditions generally say it is, but it very much depends on the dealer, see http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057558906 for a previous discussion on that point. Also some scrappage deals are due to expire on Feb 29th (http://www.hyundai.ie/161offers/index.php) but could be extended again.

Depends what car you're after, what deal you can get, how much you want to spend, how you plan to finance etc. I went looking in November and decided to get a Hyundai i30 on a scrappage deal trading in a 15 year old Corolla. Main attraction for me was a brand new car with 5 year warranty for similar overall cost to something 2-3 years old, getting value out of a 15 year old car that owed me nothing.

    Best of luck

It has been discussed here recently, some dealers are not too bothered about it having a NCT, they are happy once it drives you to the garage.
