I have product I would like to try and sell online. It seems to me with ebay you can only sell in your home country (ebay.ie) and not to the rest of the world. is that correct?

I was thinking of setting up a store using square space or shopify to sell the goods.

What would be the best way to go?

Ebay you can sell to anywhere, just add global shipping options.

    Ebay:
Pros - Exposure (being part of their search)
Cons - Fees. See their fee structure for more

    Squarespace:
Pros - Not paying a commission other than transaction fee
Cons - Trying to get hits/SEO, monthly charge

You can sell worldwide but shipping costs and fees are punitive for Irish sellers. You either have to sell high value items or enormous quantities. UK sellers have a major advantage in the UK market (although it still makes up about 50% of my sales) but I easily compete in the wider EU/Europe.

I use both. Ebay and Amazon are useful ways to direct people to your site. A discount voucher for next purchase is a good way to get returning customers to your site rather than returning to Ebay. Getting an e-commerce site rocking takes a long time and a lot of work.

Take note of An Post restricted items list too.
