Severe noise/vibration on 29k railcars

    I'm on a 29k now where I noticed something was odd - it's quiet!

Last few months every single other 29k I've been on has had a roaring, or vibration racked engine or other drivetrain component

Is there a systematic maintenance issue here? They weren't like this when new and this one clearly doesn't suffer

Maybe the engine on that carriage is turned off? I've had that, and it is definitely night and day noise wise.

One issue with the 29ks is that each carriage actually has two underfloor engines, one for traction(moving the train) and one for electrical power. That makes them very noisy and rattly.

    Perhaps it got an overhaul.

Got to be a dead engine

    29k was always noisy

I'm confident enough it was powered - it wasn't silent, just quiet enough to cope with. The 22ks are vastly quieter all the time

If it's a overhaul that did it clearly they're not being done enough

Then maybe just one of the engines on the carriage was off. If only the smaller generator engine is running that would explain it.
