Hi people, thanks in advance for reading.

I bought a 2011 mac pro last year in Aus when I was living there.

I did some research on the model and heard the graphics/motherboard can overheat and cause issues. Didnt think it would be an issue for me as i wouldnt be using graphics.

Anyway for the first 6 months or so it would reboot if I did attempt any GPU heavy apps but now its starting from time to time with word/browser/itunes.

I have graphics switching off so that shouldnt affect it.

Any ideas how I can limit this happening? Or investigate why?

Im new to macs so i dont really know my next step.

    Cheers

Apple have a warranty extension program for 15" MBP's, you may be able to get it covered. the issue you may have is that you are outside warranty and likely outside the 3 year extension program and also not bought in the EU. if you can get the claim validated you may be able to get onto Apple and plead your case. you will however need to get the issue verified first and then plead like hell.

My MacBook Pro had the same issue. I rang apple who referred me to Compu B, they had a diagnostic they ran in store, it failed (or passed for needing repair!) and they ordered the part and had the machine returned 2 days later.

I bought my machine from Apple.ie, so I didn't have too much complexity on that side, but a call to apple and/or calling into Compu B - should help. The apple statement doesn't seem to place any geographic limits on the program
