As some of you are aware I talked at length about buying an original Mazda mx5 for my wedding day as I had always wanted one.

A few weeks ago I found the perfect car and bought it. Obviously my fiance was delighted when I arrived home with it.

Sadly a week later some local lads decided they'd also like it. So they duly relieved us of our wedding car.

The car was recovered but I've been told by the assessor that it'll be written off.

This again has upset us more. I had a post on Facebook asking people to keep an eye out for the car so we could hopefully get it back in good condition.

Then a few days ago I got message, this time from Mazda Ireland. They spotted what had happened and while they couldn't help me with the old MX5 they were very happy to offer me a new 2016 MX5 for a few days both sides of the wedding for us to use. No catch, they want nothing back.

So there you have it, I really wasn't expecting such a kind offer from them when in fairness they really didn't have to. I just thought I'd post the thread as mostly around here we only see motorists suffer from terrible customer service and I really feel this was a welcome change. Obviously I'm chuffed that I'll have an MX5 for my wedding again as is my future OH who saw my frustration and disappointment over what happened the first one.

I can't seem to quote all posts but I'd agree 100% that whoever made the decision should be encouraged and kept going. I already have a soft spot for Mazda but let's be honest it would be very hard for me to look anywhere else for my next car now!

I've already said I'm happy to give them a few pics on the day as a thank you also. Seems only right really.

I was pretty blown away by the kind offer. They really went beyond what I thought anyone would do. It really isn't often these days that customer service can leave you speechless.

Fair play to Mazda. Have a lovely wedding day.

That is nearly movie territory, I guess it's the power of social media (unless you were in contact with them otherwise). Great strategy on their part - these things don't go unnoticed.

I wonder if the day could get even better...I don't know, news about a "local lad" being ran over by a bus, maybe?

Well done Mazda Ireland, you rock!

I have a mint 1998 MX5, dark green with new tan hood and tan leather interior.
If you want an older one for the day as well, mine is there for you also.

PM me if you would want it.

I wonder if you will get the highest spec one they have :)
Well done to Mazda, I must say that it's these types of stories which restores your faith in humanity.
Well done also to Golfgorfield offering his car also, fair play all round.
Now... call Mazda after the wedding and tell them it's been nicked but secretly you've hidden it in a barn somewhere :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,454 ✭✭✭tc20

that's brilliant - good on you Mazda, and good for you BA (sorry to hear about your MX5 getting nicked)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,866 ✭✭✭✭bear1

Incidentally BA, would it cost you a lot to buy it back from the insurance company? Remember to refuse the first offer or 2.

Nice one! Throw up some pics after if you can.:)

Many thanks for the offer. I had really wanted to own the car and keep it. Given my recent luck with cars I'm now terrified to drive others..........never mind an enthusiasts car!

I'm waiting to see what the insurance company come back with before a final decision is made about its faith but all I do know is that it won't make the wedding. We'll just have to wait and see after that. Ideally I'd like to retain it as a very long term project.

I'll certainly get a lot of shots of the car before and during the big day for you all.

Nice gesture alright but they're not losing anything, they have only things to gain.

Fair play to Mazda Ireland, Its the small things that can make the biggest differences

If more companies followed that trend...

Exactly. It's costing nothing but the positive impact it has can be huge. To be honest I think it was just a nice thing for them to do and something they didn't have to do at all.

Ah in fairness it didn't cost them anything but most companies wouldn't. It's a great gesture.

Tell them you're not really gone on what they've done with the new one and prefer Fiats version, and could they get you a 124 spider instead. :pac::D:P:pac:

Reminds me of when a battery died in my car when I stopped at the shops.

Rang local dealer (they also do recovery service in the area) and asked if they could jump start the car. Not only they did it, but they did it for free:eek:

Not all businesses are there to steal our money.

Good luck with the car, just don't drive it like you stole it :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Thanks fir the nice wishes and I'll be sure to update when I get the car in the summer 😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,499 ✭✭✭✭Alun

The Mk 1 MX-5's didn't have an immobilizer fitted as standard IIRC, so that may be why it was so easily stolen.

I'm jealous of you getting to drive the 2016 model, it looks very nice. I don't suppose you'd consider loaning it to me and you can have our 2006 Mk 3 instead :D

Firstly, reading this made me feel good/warm/fuzzy etc and well done to the Maxda employee who read the story and thought, you know what, I am in a position to let one of our cars go for the week if it helps a couple out after a sh1tty thing happened them.

People saying aww sure it costs Mazda nothing, and it's just for publicity. Go away would ye.
