Remote Access

Hi all, hope someone can help.

Had a MR3420 with E3272 which has now been changed to the Archer MR200, outdoor 4G antenna used which is connected to the Meteor 4G network.

I have a No-IP account set up and this has been logged into successfully from the router.

I use a Edision OS3+ combi linux box running Openatv for watching TV. I have Openwebif activated on this and have enabled HTTP and given this a port number.

I have created a virtual server on the router and assigned the IP address of the OS3+ with the port number.

All the above, I think, should allow me to remotely access the Openwebif of the OS3+ but alas no!

Is there anything I have or haven't done in order for this to work?

    Thanks

Are you sure you're not behind CGN? Do you get a real public IP?

    Hi ED E,

How would I know this or how can I check?

Is there anyway around it if I am?

Cant help with your issue but how does your new set up compare to the old one? i'm currently using that old set up. Was there any increase in signal strength/speeds on the MR200 without the external antenna?

I have to use with external antenna as I don't get a signal without them so can't comment on what it is like without them.

I do intend to spend a bit of time trying different providers and seeing if I can increase the performance.

It is working well so far although haven't had much time to play around with it.

Your UI should be something like this:

    0fV7ozBl.png

That one is for DSL not 4G but it should look almost identical. Check the IP address field.

If it starts with 10. , 192. or 172. then its a private address and remote access won't be possible. If its anything else you're golden.

To fix it you'd need to either change APN from a normal one to a "mobile BB" one and if that's not applicable you may need an addon for your account. I'm not a vodafone mobile customer so can't speak to their policies there.

Thanks ED E will take a look at it and see.

Looking at this again and the IP given starts 100. If I check my IP through a laptop I get 185. which is the same IP if I log into noip.com and check it there. The APN I'm using for meteor is broadband.mymeteor.ie

    I was correct so:
    100.64.0.0/10 100.64.0.0 –
100.127.255.255 4,194,304 Private network Used for communications between a service provider and its subscribers when using a Carrier-grade NAT, as specified by RFC 6598.

You need to get Meteor to change you over to give you a dedicated IP Address (Dynamic or Static).

Unfortunately it looks like Meteor no longer supply a public IP address even by request going by this thread. It's similar with Vodafone also.

I do know existing Three mobile broadband customers get a public IP address and new customers can get it by request.

The only other way I'm aware of to get a public IP address is with a VPN service that offers a public address. Some privacy VPNs such as HMA provide a public IP address with some of their servers. Just note that the IP address changes each time the VPN connects (use No-IP to get around this), there's an additional latency of the VPN connection for incoming connections and the router or device needs VPN support.

Thanks ED E and editorsean. Will check out setting up a VPN, which is no bad thing anyway.

One of the joys of only being able to get mobile broadband. Have noticed that we are on the proposed FTTH upgrade so hopefully things will change come 2020!

I gave the VPN method a quick try using WAMP on my desktop PC connected over 4G and my laptop with my DSL connection. The most complicated part was actually figuring out how to make WAMP temporarily web-accessible as the process changed in version 3.

iD Mobile issues a 10.x.x.x IP address, which is obviously inaccessible over the web. However, here's the WAMP test site accessible from my DSL-connected laptop with my desktop connected to the VPN over 4G. Basically I just typed the IP address HMA provided into the laptop and transferred a test ZIP file to get an idea of the transfer speed:

    nrvzK5E.png

In case anyone tries accessing that IP, I've disconnected the VPN and disabled web access in WAMP at this point.

To enable web access in WampServer 3, first make sure a strong MySQL root password is set in phpMyAdmin, then edit the httpd.conf file, search for "Require local" and change it to "Require all granted".
