Hi all, my baby is due to have her first set of two vaccinations and I was hoping to space these out by about a week so as to not bombard her immune system, just wondering if anyone else has done the same?

My little girl had an incredibly tough time with her vaccines she got sick after every single one. We discussed giving one at a time with her doctors but it was eventually decided not to as it would be more of a sustained attack on her immune system then getting them together. Quite honestly it is so much easier for them and better to get them altogether.

My thinking on that is that the schedule is tested, verified and approved on many babies previously.

Why would I change it up and put my baby into an untested schedule? Unless I was on a clinical trial (which she has been on, for some other stuff), I wouldn't mess with the fully tested vaccine method.

My GP worked as a locum for a very brief period with a GP who recommended spacing out the vaccines on an individual basis. He was so concerned about this practice he reported it to the relevant body. I gave my children the vaccines as scheduled and recommended by the HSE. I saw no reason to subject them to numerous GP visits and injections - and pay for individual vaccines other than those not on the schedule.

The only people I know of that spaced out vaccines were children with additional needs and health issues, and it was done due to very specific health reasons, and only on the advice of their medical specialist for the health condition.

You could ask, but might be told that you'd have to arrange and pay for it privately, assuming you can get it at all. One parent I know had to travel to the UK to get the vaccine separately as they didn't provide it here.

Unless your GP / paed has advised you to get them separately due to medical issues your child has, then you should be following the schedule implemented by the HSE rather than thinking personally they should be spaced out. They have researched how to administer vaccines safely, otherwise they wouldn't have them in the schedule they recommend.
