I apologise guys as I know it's been asked a thousand times already - I'm just hoping there might be news for 2016.

Is there any word on whether there is (or will be) any sort of combo box that will come out which will have automatic channel updates on the freesat side?

I wonder why channels change their frequencies so often. I take it that it's all to do with the cost of said channels using a frequency on a satellite?

Thank you for reading and apologies for bringing up this topic again.

Why all the secrecy? Everything about Saorview is shrouded in secrecy - it is not as if it is a commercial enterprise - or is it?

its saorview connect, no saorview/freesat combined box, saorview connect is using freesat freetime's technology like rewinding the TV guide to watch stuff in the last 4 weeks

    That's a secret obviously.

I would think seeing as there's no concrete specs on what they are actually going to release and no manufacturer(s) declared as being onboard you won't be able to purchase one at any time in 2016.

There is a specification for the boxes, to give one example all remote controls will be identical and logical channel numbering is also there . I think we will see at least one box this year with the saorview connect spec.

I'd hope something like Humax or Samsung, the OSD on Walker boxes is terrible.

Hopefully the OSD will be fairly standardised across all boxes, similar to the freesat set up.

If the new box is made by Walker/Vestal, I certainly wont be changing from my Humax Freeview and Humax Freesat boxes...

I understand there are two company's competing for the new approved box. I don't know the names as yet.

Why two companies competing for the new box? Can we not have competition between suppliers? I thought Soarview was non-commercial.

As far as I know they are not competing, I think its more correct to say that at least two manufacturers are interested in making the boxes. There is no restriction on how many manufacturers can get involved if they wish but with the small market we have here obviously market share is a limiting factor.

I would love a triple tuner element(saorview + 2 Sat tuners) with a built in HDD but I guess that would be expensive and probably have bugs like the Walker box (with no HDD) did. I presume that the product launch will be for the Saorview Connect with 2 tuners (DTT and SAT) only at first?

There are plenty of boxes with that spec on the market - all it needs is the software.

2 x saorview and 2 x sat would be the best configuration for a box with built in hard drive in my view but I suspect it may end up as having just one sat tuner as the spec will probably favour Saorview over satellite channels.

Surely a Twin Sat tuner is standard now, otherwise you can't watch one sat channel while recording another

Same for Saorview, twin is needed with the 2 Muxes in use

I thought the aerial could be split internally unlike sat cable signal. I do hope someone like humax does this and that free time becomes part of TVs etc

The aerial can be split internally but you still need two terrestrial tuners for full recording and viewing flexibility on Saorview.

Not among combo boxes that I know of . Would make for a much better product as far more channels are on satellite than terrestrial. We can only hope :-)
