New VW Golf

I ordered a new VW Golf Highline today from my local VW garage. Was happy enough with the deal I received but after work I went on Facebook and noticed that VW are offering 0% APR on their PCP deals.

Where do I stand with this offer? Is their a cooling off period that would apply? It is worth about 800e

Strange they didn't highlight it. I was in a garage yesterday and they told me it had just come online and suggested it to me as an alternative.

You'd expect the salesman to know this kind of thing, I think it's definitely worth a phone call!

Tell them you'll cancel the order if they don't honour the 0% deal. That said, you need a significant deposit to get the 0% rate.

Are they looking for a chunkier deposit than normal in order to get the 0%? The max 30%?

No I don't think so, but I will be paying the max deposit anyway.

Looking for €11,000+ on the GTI anyway.

You should have no problem getting the new rate. If you just ordered a car I would be surprised if they got you to sign any finance documents.
You are not committed to anything with regard to how you pay for the car. When it comes to getting the car, if you want pcp you will get the prevailing rate which I assume will still be zero.
VW must be well down on volume from where they want to be if they are having to do this.

I dunno, I get the impression business is booming for them! I was chatting to my salesman lately, he's sold 5 or 6 R's in January alone. He didn't shift that many in the previous 2 years! Diesel Passats and Golfs are walking out the door despite all the dieselgate hullabaloo.

I was in a VW showroom on Sat morning and the place was jammed. Even though I rang ahead I had to wait 20-25 mins to speak to a salesperson when I got there.

I collected a new car from a VW dealership two weeks ago. They gave me an appointment for 4pm. to have the car ready for collection but they were so busy it was after 5pm when they got to me.

It was a Friday evening and the place was full of cars being prepared and registered for collection. Happy days for them by the look of it that evening.

Vw are behind in terms of where the want to be with market share.

They're not offering a 0% rate because their products are selling themselves, they need something to drive people into the showrooms.

Lots of high profile businesses have turned to alternative brands due to diesel gate so certainly in the fleet market VW are suffering.

I disagree with your last line.

It may be because their competitors are offering similar financing.

It may be because the market is looking up for a change.

It may be because their financing institutions are offering better deals.

VW have to be down compared to where they need to be to do this.
There has been a huge increase in volume generally this year amongst all manufacturers .The fact that they are busy is possibly just normal business returning but they must not be getting enough relative to other manufacturers to prompt them to do this.
I have a 15 golf I was thinking of trading in later this year but I presume this will devalue my car as it is so affordable to buy a brand new one?

If they don't need to offer I they won't.

If they need to sell more units then they will offer it.

VW historically have never needed to go chasing Apr rates because they were already fairly competitive and we're able to sell their cars on the strength of resale and brand image. Until this year of course.

This 0% offer hasn't anything to do with other manufacturers doing it, it's simply because they're not selling enough cars at the moment.

So was onto their customer and apparently anyone who has one ordered now or orders before the 31st of March and not received it is entitled to 0%.

Businesses care about the bottom line, not theoretical Nox emissions.

I'm just telling you what I'm seeing in the market.

Businesses - especially high profile international ones - also have to consider their image and how being associated with certain negative press can affect them.

Do you think this offer will have a detrimental effect on used values?
ie if it is cheap to get a new one will one and two year old cars go down more as a result?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,102 ✭✭✭✭Drummerboy08

It's only cheap to get a new one on finance. It's not cheap to buy the car outright (I.e. there is no big discount off) so it shouldn't effect the value of 2 and 3 year old models.
