Turn off Chime on Leaf Startup

Any one know how to either turn of the chime or lower its volume. Its getting old really fast and wakes sleeping children!
With front and rear sensors that car spends so much time beeping at me I don't need it singing every time I turn it on or off!

Also is there a new manual for 2016 models? The one that came in my car has a printed in 2014 date on the back.

Yes, there are new manuals, you should have received 2 (or 3) of them, one is the main manual, the other is the Navigation System manual, and those are from late 2015. The one you and I got still refers to Carwings and has incorrect charging menus and instructions, still talks about 80% long life modes etc. See this thread:

    https://speakev.com/threads/my2016-leaf-manuals-in-uk-ireland.14800/

I have asked Barlo Kilkenny to get the new manuals for me.

There are plenty of other useful things about the Leaf on speakev.com, I strongly suggest you register, and prominently display that you are from Ireland. We need a bigger presence there. :)

By the way, did your front parking sensors also come with a little stuck-on button that silences them?

No - unless it is some where hidden . Where should it be?

This is about disconnecting cable looms - not something I want to do on a brand new car.
Was hoping for a menu setting some where!

Oh yes, there is a menu called "Effects" which you access using the 4-button cluster to the right of the steering wheel. It lets you select one of 3 or 4 cheesy sounds. I think you can also select none, but I'd need to check that.

As for the front parking sensor, mine came with what looked like an after-market button on a thin two-strand ribbon cable. It was stuck next to the USB connector. It does not look too great but works. I wonder if my sensor kit is Nissan original...I will see if I can check this out in service manuals.

That worked, thanks Rafal. On less annoying noise - now to tackle the rest
(In the manual the word "chime" appears 59 times!! :) )

I'm glad it worked. Do you, per chance, have access to an online or PDF UK/Irish manual? Or just the US one? I expect that's how you counted. :)

Only the US PDF one I'm afraid.

Don't mind the chime - any way to turn off the ****ing warning message that you need to 'OK' every single time you start the car?!

Not to my knowledge. I've been looking for that, and I'm prepared to pay €600 to anyone who can successfully switch it off, provided it does not come back. :)

My previous Lexus was the same, but only if you turned on the screen for maps etc (which I didn't very often). I think there is an option in the Leaf to leave the screen switched off generally, but I like looking at my energy dials while driving!

@Rafal, I take it you didnt have to payout that €600 yet? :)

Anyone figure out a way to bypass the OK everytime you start the car?

I presume its a data protection issue and probably not possible to turnoff, i.e. the car sends personal data to Nissan everytime you start the car so you have to "agree" to it for data protection reasons.

Just a note , many recent 30kw leafs were supplied with old manuals and incorrect warrant books that mention 5 years as opposed to the correct 8 years

Get your dealer to get a correct set. They are being slowly delivered to the dealers at present

I understand that logic in asking, but surely you can say yes once and that becomes the default unless you change it manually?

    It's a pain.

PS, for €600 I'll stick a brick through the display, you won't ever need to press OK again!

It's a complete pain, they used to exist as disclaimers for sat nav , they disappeared and now we have this stupid data protection " ok"

Sadly, not yet. But I'll pay 400 only now, as I'm forced to accept bigger issues in Nissan's software development incompetence...

I design gsm telemetrics solutions and I also write the corresponding server and smartphone apps ( on contract to others )

The Nissan system is an embarrassment , it smacks of terrible testing and really really poor architecture design , coupled with woeful software implementation.

The TCU should have been 3G based two years ago , and actually using a user supplied and paid for data sim , or even a managed user paid for sim-less service. This would have allowed high volume high response always on data links from the car to the sever and the app would then be virtually instant response

The alternative is a system where the TCU directly interacts with the user smartphone , avoiding ridiculous round trip server delays

WhAt we now have is a classic last decade technology , designed to minimise cost of data transfer , because Nissan is paying. So you have the stupid idea that the server has to send a text message to wake up the TCU , before it responds with a data link , this results in the ridiculous delays you see in the app , as the text message is not originating on the local Irish network and has to propagate through several international text networks before reaching the car

The whole things smacks of a design brief that was crippled at the start and then compounded by bad implementation
