The jeep is gone in for repairs for the DOE so I'm without wheels for a week or so . The brother was at an auction in the UK and saw a nice berlingo so I told him to buy it and I would use it as a run around until the mechanic was finished with the jeep and I would sell it on for a bit of a profit . Unfortunately I hit a snag in that my insurance company won't insure it in my name . Any ideas how I can get it insured while I get it over to the VRT centre and DOE centre ? I'm with liberty at the moment .
    Thanks for any replies

WHy wouldn't they insure it in your name?

Can you insure it in someone else's name with you as a named driver?

She said it was because no one else had a policy on it . Told me if it was a garage van that she would insure it ???
Its not the end of the world but it would've been nice to have it on the road when the jeep was off it . I can get the machanic to VRT and test it if needs be

You own the vehicle, you need to ask for a permanent substitution, not a temporary substitution. That's your problem

    Commercially

That would be fine . Could I permanently substitute it back to the jeep after a week or two again ? Thanks

Yes, just remember you have no cover on the jeep when you transfer it over (no fire or theft). Make sure you have some paperwork to confirm the Berlingo is your vehicle

I had the same problem with Liberty

I was looking at trading in my car for a newer one from a main dealer.
He told me to take it for weekend ( i've bought previous car from this dealer.)
Just said to pop insurance on it for weekend.
Sound says I and ring Liberty and told a flat no because its in the conditions of my policy.
    So no new car?
I then checked my policy and it specifically says you can avail of temporary cover as long as you agree it with them.

I should really ring up again and make a point that their Reps are retards!

I'll probably cancel with them as I have multiple policies with them and tell them why they are losing my business!

Surely it's a uk reg also? Not much use to you for a week if it is.

Insurance companies are being dicks over everything and avoiding "risk".

We bought a car, U.K. Import with doe. Insurance wouldn't transfer over the cover because of uk reg and no nct.

I ended cancelling the policy with 7 months left and taking out a policy with a different company who were happy to cover it.
Real pain as we lost money cancelling the policy.

I only renewed last week , it would kill me to lose money if i canceled . Its a pity i didn't think of this when I was renewing

You might be in some cooling off period where they can charge an admin fee but refund almost everything.

Now, an administration fee could reach triple figures very soon at the rate they are going but as they always say, their bottom line and the share price comes first!

This was my first thought too.

    How are they being dicks?

They wouldn't insure an imported car with no NCT, that's a standard procedure for many companies.

Just because you pay for insurance does not mean you can do what ever you want with the policy.

Peoples sense of entitlement is laughable by times.
