    Hi All,

I had settled on the current model Accord as my next buy, well just as soon as I can finance it....

    - My research has turned up this horrible Sunroof rust issue though? Some of the pictures are really shocking, we're talking rust that would bring you back to the 70s when cars used to disintegrate from rust daily before your eyes

I was just wondering what the situation is as of now, were these issues sorted by the Dealer Network at the time? Did it only affect certain production runs etc.

Basically for any common sense advice you can offer here as if anything bad can happen, it will happen, to me :)

PS I'd also be curious about Honda's record on this issue as to my mind they would have wanted to behave impeccably here if they wanted to retain any respect & trust from the buying public......

    Thanks.

I know in the UK anyway that these were looked after by Honda.
Likely the case here as well, Honda are pretty good with recalls and fixes.
I just had the passenger airbag replaced in the previous version Accord.

Yes heard Honda in the UK were fixing them, not sure on Honda in Ireland...
9-12-2013: Rusting of sunroof has become very common on the 2008-2013 UK spec Accord. Reader had sunroof of 3.5 year old 2.4EXi replaced free of charge, probably due to being good customer of Honda but for many others Honda UK is claiming it is not covered by Honda Happiness used car warranty. This is a major issue on Honda Accord Owners Club site See: http://accordownersclub.co.uk/8th-generation-accord/2720-rust-sunroof-print.html Advisable to get the dealer to apply silicon grease to the metal frame to try & prevent recurrence.

5-7-2015: Honda is replacing rusty 8 th gen 2009 MY Accord sunroofs free of charge and reimbursing owners who had to make a contribution.http://hondakarma.com/threads/warranty-extension-sunroof-frame-corroded-2009-ym-only.14775/#post-111804

Thanks for the replies Folks - Hmmmm a bit of a worry on a 2nd hand buy so - Can imagine Honda Dealers here doing their best to fob off really?

    What do ye reckon

That's only the sunroof unit itself. It doesn't effect the structure or structural integrity of the car whatsoever. The issue is probably caused by water and roadsalt getting in on the seal and settling on the frame. Condensation from the interior could also be a factor.

I wonder though would staining run down over the roof lining leaving a mess?

Im open to correction but that shouldn't be possible. Any staining should collect in the tray underneath the sunroof.

Its a known fault so I guess the best thing to do is ring a dealer and see what they will do?
