Interesting twist in this story. Joe Brolly heavily criticised the GAA at the weekend for the €2,000 fine imposed on Dromard GAA for allowing their pitch to be used for soccer. He said in his article that members of Dromard GAA would have to sell even more lotto tickets to the community that they serve just to pay this fine which was essentially given for allowing that same community use the pitch for soccer.

Now former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is talking of paying the fine on behalf of Dromard GAA. If it goes ahead this is going to be a bit of a PR disaster for GAA HQ IMO.

Jamie Carragher's soccer school are considering an offer of financial support to the Longford GAA club that has been fined €2,000 for allowing their grounds to be used to host one of the schools run by the former Liverpool defender last August.

Dromard GAA club's appeal against the fine has been ruled out of order because it was submitted last week outside the three-day window allowed for in GAA rule.
The club took the three-day window to be three 'working' days but it is in fact three days from the date and time of notification.
The Irish Independent understands that Carragher has been updated regularly on developments and with the appeal route now exhausted, his school may be prepared to help out with the fine.
When news of the penalty broke 11 days ago Carragher's school issued a statement to the Irish Independent outlining that they would meet "to discuss what assistance it can offer to the club concerned".

It'd be ridiculous if Jamie Carragher came out if this with positive press while the GAA shoot themselves in the foot with negative pr

It's been a PR disaster already and I'm delighted this is happening it just proves what idiots the people runnning the GAA are.

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the situation surely someone up in GAA HQ could have worked out at sort of negative publicity this would generate and figured it wasn't worthwhile. There is nothing to be gained by the GAA's stance and lots to be lost as again despite GAA members being no more opposed to others sports or no less forwrd thinking than people involved in other sports are the GAA top brass decided to present a completely different image to the public.
