Hominid research seems to really come out with wild extrapolations from the flimsiest of "evidence". OK Hominid fossils are rare, very rare, but the speed at which conclusions are often forwarded can be unseemly. Large finds of many individuals like the Georgian Erectus site show the errors of our ways. Namely the large variation in humans within the same species, that if they were found as isolated specimens there'd be fights over what to name these "new" guys.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    Right?

I'm guessing everyone wants to make it to Nat Geo magazine...
