Women's 6 Nations geo-blocked on NI Freeview!

Last Saturday night's RTE2 coverage of Women's 6 Nations was geo-blocked on NI Mini-mux (Freeview). Surely no UK channel had rights to this match so why was it geo-blocked? Strangely the 2 Saturday games in the 6N were 'in the clear' on RTE2 via Sky in NI (BBC had UK rights to these) while Italy vs England on Sunday was geo-blocked (ITV had UK rights). All 3 matches were geo-blocked on RTE via Freeview in NI. Who exactly makes the decision to geo-block? Home and Away on RTE is geo-blocked on both Freeview/Sky in NI while Neighbours is 'in the clear.'

6 nations rights are for all competitions (senior men, under 20 and women's) so BBC and ITV share the rights to the women's 6 nations just like the men's competition

That they didn't want to show it is unfortunate for you but RTE can't show it outside of "Republic of Ireland"

Surely that's not quite correct as Sky Sports have rights to England's U 20's home games. Also BBC Wales showed Ireland vs Wales U 20's although ITV had exclusive live rights to Ireland vs Wales. This suggests the senior 6 nations rights are separate from the U 20's competition and possibly separate from the Women's 6 nations as well. Also if RTE can't show the Women's 6 nations outside of ROI why was it not geo-blocked on Sky as well as Freeview in NI? BTW I did see the latter game as I have Sky.

it's easier for them to control geo blocking on digital platforms than satellite.

RTE only have the rights to these games in the Republic of Ireland so they can't show them in the UK even if no one else has those rights.

If one or two slip that net, then all the better for NI viewers but the rights are realted to ROI only

Fair points made here. Those with RTE only via Freeview here in NI must be continually frustrated if they are sports fans though. Just wondering why England game on Sunday on RTE 2 was geo-blocked on satellite and not the 2 games on Saturday? Did ITV insist on this while BBC didn't bother to?

UTV want you watching the ads on their channel. The BBC obviously not as bothered.

'Against The Head' on RTE2 geo-blocked on Sky but 'in the clear' on Freeview here in NI!
