    Hi all,

Myself and my family are hoping to move from Dublin to Ballinamore. Our teenage son is 15 and would hopefully start 5th year in the community college in September. We will contact the school to gain more information and hopefully arrange to call down and see it, but were wondering are their many teenagers in the town and what activities/clubs there would be for our son as we want to ensure we move somewhere he can make friends and not be isolated. We are also wondering what the area is like in general would there many activities for ourselves (we're in our 40's) as we would be keen to make friends and get involved in the local community. Also is there anything negative we need to know about such as antisocial behaviour.
I hope ye don't mind all the questions but we are trying to do as much research as possible in advance.
    Thanks.

I dont live in the area myself but there have been a few threads in the past about Ballinamore and while some of them are old they may be worth a quick read...LINK

Some of the locals who frequent the forum will be in a better position to advise. Good luck with the move :)

We live just outside Ballinamore. Lovely area. Mainly farming and rural living.
The community college is new and children from the wider area attend.

    If your son plays sports,

Sean O'Heslins is the towns GAA club. (The GAA is massive in the area) https://www.facebook.com/ballinamore.seanoheslinsgaa/

The local Rugby Club is in Carrick on Shannon. (20 mins in the car)

There are two equestrian centres within 10 and 25 minutes of you

Ballinamore and Fenagh have community centres that have various activities on through the year. From plays to fitness lessons. Dancing to card playing. Yoga to painting. etc, etc.

Plenty of clubs and society's to get involved in. Just depends on what floats your boat. Talking of which. Some lovely walks down by the canal.

    Hope this helps.
