Advice on leaving job

I work for a restaurant and have just over two years experience in the kitchen. I am not qualified but have learnt a lot that I could easily use elsewhere. I kind of enjoy the work that I do but there are many aspects that outweigh me not being happy there and also I recently asked for a rate increase and before I could finish the question was told 'NO' with no reason. Apparently, it has been said there are massive cutbacks but I heard someone else say they are doing very well! I don't think they are good to work for. I do want a change and I also would like a increase if only slightly. I feel very undervalued where I am. There is also no proper management (only the owner) and there is noone to say who should be doing what, so somethings that I do takes me away from my own job and I feel like I can't talk to the boss cause nothing will be done about it. Also, I have no contract, I am always flexible dropping everything to go into work when called. My question is, I don't know what reason I can give to a future employer about why I am leaving. If I say I want a change, they will think I am hiding something. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just be honest and say you feel you have more to give and are looking for your a better/new oportunity. Everyone fancies a change now and again so it will be nothing out of the ordinary

That's what you tell any future employer, you seek a position that offers better conditions and job security.
