Going through my husband's 2015 p60 we realised he doesn't pay usc? We checked his payslips so far this year and he has paid it since january so far this year but in his payslips for last year he seems to have paid a single person pension Levi instead?

He earns over the 12000 so definitely should be paying in . Worried sick he's going to end up with a huge bill and of course realized this on a Saturday so can't call unroll Monday to sort it out

If you do owe , revenue will agree to spread it over a couple of years . How much more than 12k did he earn ? It is straightforward to work out what is due
    1.5% of first 12k
    3.5% of next 5.6k
    7% on next 52.5k

He makes about 22000 before deductions. His latest payslip says he payed 48 for the month so I'm figuring we will owe that times twelve.

Only copped it as we sent off stuff for a marriage review after getting married last spring. We are waiting for a refund as I'm not working so he now has my tax credits going back to March.

I'm guessing whatever refund we were due will have the missing usc taken from it? The refund is taking a long time and I'm now assuming it's because it flagged the usc issue we may have shot ourselves in the foot a bit but we didn't know about the usc.

We applied for the refund/ redistribution of tax credits on the 8th of January and all we got back so far is the amended tax credit cert.

I've been waiting at the door for a cheque but I'll probably just get a big bill but good to know it can be paid slowly.

You won't be due a refund on tax as his earnings aren't high enough to take advantage of your tax credits I'm afraid.

Maybe get a tax refund service to have a look over both your taxes. I used irishtaxrebates.ie but there are others.

Any expenditure on medical is reclaimable as is some expenditure depending on your jobs.

Its worth checking and as above if a genuine error us made, they'll spread it out.

It's around 24000 now if added it up. I'm more concerned with the bill but if we can spread it out it won't be too bad. Tax office have told him in person and on the phone he is definitely due something back now that could be a euro for all I know but they told us it's been assigned to someone and will be in the bank within twenty working days from applying but sure time will tell.

    That's good news :)

I specifically came onto boards to post this same question! have you any update yet? My situation is ive just realised ive paid no USC for 2015 but did pay it in 2014... outlined below..

This started off with as of January I was given a 2% raise (woo hoo!) however I noticed by take home had actually gone down so I sat down and went through payslips etc, long story short I don’t appear to have payed any USC in 2015 my salary is 20k+.. therefore I should of being paying USC is my understanding from citizens info. Now into 2016 and my 2% has been applied however I am being charged USC and therefore end up with less than what I was getting in 2015.

Does this look like a case of my USC being underpaid? I am in full time work in the same job since 2014. I had a medical card back in 2012/13 or so but just for a year I never renewed it or did anything as I went into employment it so presume it expired etc (I only mention it because I believe it has some effect on USC)

I live on a tight enough budget as it is an am now worried about having to back pay.. do I say nothing or do I raise it? Or do a P21 and see what happens?

I underpaid PAYE and USC last year due to a payroll error on my final 2015 wage - they gave me an extra week's credit in error. Got my P21 and underpayment will be resolved by adjusting my 2017 credits. So it will be spread over year rather than being hit with a lump sum bill

It's been a bit of a debacle to be honest.
He went it to find out if the 2015 had could be taken slowly over a year instead of coming out of the marriage refund we are due back. They told him he hadnt paid had in 2014 either and said this was as he had been unemployed in 2013 (jobridge) and was exempt from tax then and was presumed to still be under the threshold in 2014 and 2015 and would need to pay back both years but they wouldn't tell him how or how much until his refund was being dealth with .

He came home and found his payslips from 2014 and he realised He did pay usc all that year so back in he went.

When he showed them he had paid they said oh yeah so you did we will put a note on your file. No explanation for why he paid it in 14 not 15 and paying again now when he hasn't changed jobs the whole time , he just gets a lot of "oh that's odd, can't see how that happened"

We still know nothing as all they tell him is yes there's a mess up ,yes we owe you a refund, yes you owe 2015 usc but we can't deal with any of it until it's your turn in line. This all began on 8th of Jan so who knows but we have given up.

We are just going to sit back and let them update us when they figure out what's going on and who owes who what.

I've been told they can take whatever you owe slowly over time out situation is just different as we are awaiting a refund in sure you will be able to sort something out with them that doesn't hit you too badly
