I've just seen that the Celtic Whiskey Shop in Dublin have this for sale at €28. I like a dark rum to mix with coke & a slice of lime. My usual choice is Havana Club Anejo Especial, which outside of special offers is usually around the €32/3 mark. I haven't tried Gosling before, has anyone here had it & how does it compare to the likes of Havana Club? Is it good value at that price point?

I tried it once, like yourself my usual choice would be Havana Club Anejo Especial and the Goslings Black Seal (iirc) was a very different kettle of fish - not sure if that's a pun or not...

Not saying the Goslings isn't a quality rum, but didn't think it worked as well in a cuba libre as the Havana Club did.

I think I'd actually be more curious to try the Goslings Gold Rum as that seems more similar...

As a cheaper alternative, LIDL's own brand white rum with a splash of their orange liquer, then cola and lime is a nice cocktail.

So you reckon it's ok for the money? Might get a bottle & switch my drink of choice to Dark & Stormy for a while (which seems to be the recommended use for it) rather than Cuba Libre. I'm assuming it's not a good enough rum to be sipped straight.

If you want to have a few dark and stormys then defo go for the Goslings Black Seal... you'll need to pick your mixer to taste. I sometimes go half and half with Dunnes own brand Cola and Schweppes Ginger Ale, but others prefer the kick of a real ginger beer.

Cool, will try that. There doesn't seem to be many ginger beers for sale that I've seen though, nowhere near as common as ginger ale for some reason.

Aldi were doing 700ml bottles of Crabbies for €2.79, haven't seen them in a while though.

Old Jamaica root ginger beer is a nice alternative, although non-alcoholic :(

Old Jamaica ginger beer is great for mixing - lovely and fiery. It's often in a lot of Asian food shops for some reason.

Goslings Black Seal rum is one of my favourites and usually great value for money.
