Denon AVR-X6200W for Dolby Atmos / DTS:X system

    Hi John and crew,

I'm starting to get the upgrade itch and want to step up from a 5.1 to a 5.2.4 atmos / DTS:X cinema system and give the main speakers a bit more welly and get ready for 4K / UHD Bluray etc.

Current system is based around a Denon 2809 running BX5 fronts, BX centre and BX2 surround speakers we got from yourselves (along with JVC D-ILA projector and 2x SVS subs) which all sounds superb.

Could you quote for a Denon AVR-X6200W and/or Marantz SR7010 9.2 channel receiver? Is there much difference between the two besides better build quality and total power output of the Denon?

Also will be adding 4 ceiling speakers in a few months for Atmos / DTS:X effects channels
Can you give me a unit price for Monitor Audio CT265IDC in-ceiling speakers?

    Many thanks,
    Owen

PS: the CT-165s you recommended are excellent!

    Hi Owenw.

Yip either of those two monsters of an amp would be amazing!! Adding in the Atmos speakers would really bring your own speakers to life.
We run 5.1.2 in our Belfast store using the Pioneer LX59.

I would need to check on Monday for pricing on both these amps as we don't seem to have it on system.

On the CT265 IDC 200 series speaker they are £149.95 each but I'm sure I could work a deal on them for you :D

Once I speaker with D & M on Monday I'll update with pricing.

    Thanks Kenny.
What sort of Atmos speakers are you running on the Pioneer (cracking amp from all accounts)?

With regards to speaker placement, is there a limit to how close the in-ceiling speakers can be placed to adjacent walls?

If I follow Dolby guidelines (to align LR ceiling speakers to the corresponding LR Fronts and LR Rear surrounds), then the ceiling speakers would only be about 50cm / 1.6ft from the side walls.

I read somewhere that they shouldn't be less than 3 feet from the nearest wall.

Don't want to cut holes in the ceiling more than once!! :)

There isn't really much about distance from the walls as such, I think ours wouldnt be far off the 50cm mark either
There is some quite detailed info here - http://www.dolby.com/in/en/guide/dolby-atmos-speaker-setup/5-1-4-setups.html if its of any help to you

    Cheers
