Copper cylinder value

So I had the hot water cylinder in my house changed out as the old one was badly leaking and corroded. I asked the plumber to leave the old one there for me as I wanted to take it to the scrap man. He ended up taking it with him and said it was of no value.

How much is a standard copper cylinder worth at a scrap dealer these days?
I know it's certainly not zero as I've brought a few to them over the years.

I guess I want to take the value off the total I have to pay him. I made it clear before he gave me a quote that I wanted him to leave the cylinder so I know he didn't factor that into the price.

I doubt you'd get 35. Well I suppose it depends on the cylinder size.
Op, simply ask for the cylinder back. Explain to the plumber that you won't pay him until you get your property back. Simple.

It's €1.80 a pound for copper and that's wholesale so a scrapper will offer much less. By the time you drive to the scrapyard and counting your personal time will it be worth your while?

I got €30 for a 30"X18" one in 2011 but I live literally a stones throw from the C--- Metal Recycling Co. and I only did this because I wanted it out of my sight and I had also changed out the cylinder myself, I wouldnt fall out with the plumber over this, you may need him again for some minor problem and I suppose he was doing you a favour in that you didnt have to transport it yourself. For interest only the old cylinder weighed 14 kgs (single Coil) and the new (copper) 150 Litre cylinder fitted with two coils weighed 25 Kgs.
A scrap dealer would probably only give you a tenner.

Each time I go the scrap dealers I come out with about €200. That's worth my while anyway. I don't know about you.

Couple of years ago now but i took a cylinder and some copper pipe (which some people who called at the door kindly offered to take out of my way for me!) and got over €100.

I'd be more concerned that he told you it was of no value. Seriously?

I wouldn't fall out with the plumber over this, you may need him again for some minor problem and I suppose he was doing you a favour in that you didn't have to transport it yourself.

The plumber ended up doing a poor job on something else in the house. Left me with a shower that didn't work and a tray wasn't sealed properly. I had to finish his work myself.
The worry of what shortcuts he took that I can't see means I wouldn't use him again.
