I'm looking to get a second family car with a budget of 3500 euro.

When I say family, I'm not looking for anything massive or an estate, just a saloon with a decent boot for a buggy etc...

Max engine size I will go is 1.8, I'd like leather interior, cruise control and as many gadgets as possible. Hate bottom spec.

    I'm leaving towards a 2005 Volvo S40. Opinions?

Its probably not what you want to hear but if you bump up the budget a bit you could get a 06 or 07 Civic saloon 1.8

Very highly regarded cars around these parts. Nicely spec'ed, nice to drive and very reliable from what I have heard

If your looking for a car with a decent boot for a buggy then forget about the S40. The boot is deep but has a narrow opening so it looses alot of it's use. Rear passenger room is tight on them too.

Decent size boot you want is it ? :)

Skoda octavia you can put 5 prams in the boot if you want too one of the best in its class in terms of boot space basically a golf with a big boot. I was in an s40 recently and I was shocked how small the boot is back seats are tight too as said. Just avoid the 1.4 engine in the octavia as it is underpowered.

I've an 05 1.9TDi Octavia and I think I'll be sticking with Octavias for the time being, find it to be an excellent car.
